With Velocita’s Mobitex network, there is no competition with voice applications for network access. Data is “pushed” from a host to a mobile device unlike other networks that require the mobile device to initiate, request or “pull” data from a gateway. While these networks may involve a call set up time or delays in connectivity to search for pending messages, Mobitex delivers messages to the mobile with no action required from the user.

Instant network access

Velocita’s Mobitex network is always available, instantly accessible and response times are short. Since packet switching does not require a dedicated connection, devices can remain online at all times, sending and receiving data as required by the application.

Velocita’s Mobitex network is designed for a large number of short bursts of communications. Mobitex is fast because it has low latency, meaning that the round-trip data time is short. Mobitex provides a packet switched network for these purposes, while also providing high security, reliability and always-on services.

Our spare inventory of base stations allows for rapid deployment of in-building and campus coverage solutions on customer-owned premises. Unlike our competitors, the time from customer request to implementation within customer facility takes just a few days for temporary or even permanent solutions.

Redundancy and backup

With Velocita's state-of-the-art IP-based switching technology, mulitple redundancies are built into the mobitex network. Redundancies include:

Extensive power back up systems - uninterruptible power supply on AC or DC power, battery back-up, and on-site diesel generator back-up
Complete fire detection and suppression systems
Intra/Inter-switch - multiple layers of equipment redundancies and fail-over within each facility and between facilities
Telco - carrier diverse with multiple redundancies to each cell site.

True push functionality

Velocita’s Mobitex accommodates true push functionality. Without being requested, a host can initiate a transmission to a remote device, hence "pushing" the information forward. This functionality is particularly useful in command-and-control functions and for telemetry and other device-to-device applications. Mobitex also supports push functionality to pre-defined user groups (e.g. all buses, all trains, all signs or all ambulances).
