Velocita Wireless, the leading supplier of narrowband network data services for machine-to-machine applications in the retail, transportation and other sectors, has passed a major milestone in reconfiguring its U.S. wireless network architecture with the completion of its Eastern U.S. switching facility. It also has begun work on its Western U.S. switching center, which will be online in the first quarter of 2008.
The million-dollar switch investment is consolidating and replacing 68 older technology switches with new software-based IP switch architecture deployed at two highly secure locations. These two state-of-the-art switching centers will provide optimum traffic routing within Velocita's network.
The new switching centers will increase capacity, significantly reduce points of potential failure, and introduce a new level of redundancy. The upgrade also moves the company's switches from leased locations in commercial buildings to telecommunication collocation facilities having advanced security, power backup, fire suppression and other capabilities.

The switch-layer upgrade is part of a broader Velocita program to solidify its technology base through investments in software and hardware. These projects include making its base-station coverage in 48 states more efficient and reengineering much of its customer-related data and messaging gateways.
